Dishonour of Cheque is a punishable offence under Indian Law. Negotiable Instrument Act, provides punishment upto 2 years and fine upto double of the cheque amount to the drawee who fails to hourour his cheque. Liability has also been extended to the directors of companies responsible for dealing of the company. However, despite that there are various instances in which cheque is not honoured by the drawer due to variety of reasons which leads to filing of case by the drawee.
